Butte Lake Stock Corral

Spend some time in Lassen Peak Volcanic Park when you camp at Butte Lake Stock Corral with your friends. You must have horses, mules, burros, or llamas to reserve this facility. The site can accommodate up to ten people, eight animals, and six vehicles. There's a $25 charge per vehicle in addition to the camping fee. Your amenities include two metal corrals, fire rings, flush toilets, and potable water. Bring feed for your animals and enjoy the peaceful surroundings in this remote location.

The campground sits under the ponderosa pines and near Butte Lake. There's a black lava flow from an extinct cinder cone that's southwest of camp. Hike through the red and black hills of Painted Dunes and up the side of the old volcano. The gravel pathway to the top circles around the dome to offer scenic views of Lassen Peak and the surrounding areas. Walk to the water and go fishing for trout, suckers, and other species. You can also swim, canoe, or boat in a non-motorized craft here. 

You're welcome to bring Spot with you on your camping trip, but they'll have to stay in camp when you go exploring. The volcanic rock and ash in the area can be damaging for their paw pads. If weather permits, you can leave them in your vehicle when you use the trails. Don't tie them outside or leave them unattended. Scoop and bag your pup's poop and all manure. You can drop the bags by the refuse container or take them with you when you exit the campground.

Come to Butte Lake Stock Corral to camp and go horseback riding in Lassen Peak Volcanic Park. Enjoy time on the lake and go for a hike through fantastic lava fields. A backcountry permit is required when you bring stock animals to the park. You can get one for free by mail or in person at designated locations.
