Colwell Lake Campground

Are you looking for a place where you can enjoy the company of your dog while you camp out in the Michigan woodlands? If so, Colwell Lake Campground is the perfect location for your next outdoor adventure! While you stay there, you can immerse yourself in the lakeside camping experience and explore the many outdoor recreation sites available in Hiawatha National Forest.

Colwell Lake Campground has 37 sites you can choose from. They fall into a range of categories: walk-to, standard nonelectric, standard electric, and group nonelectric. The nightly fees are $18, $20, $24, and $55, respectively. The campsites are equipped with lantern posts, campfire rings with grills, picnic tables, and tent pads. There is no entrance fee for the area. There are some other amenities you can use at the campground as well, including a picnic area, a boat ramp, a dump station, and drinking water.

If you want to spend some time exploring the area near the campground, you can check out the Colwell Lake Trail. It loops around the lake, and it covers about two miles total. Throughout your hike, you’ll have breathtaking views of the surrounding forest of deciduous and coniferous trees as well as the calm waters of Colwell Lake—the area is pawticularly picturesque in the fall months.

If you’re interested in aquatic activities, you can find many ways to pass the time at the lake. The campground’s boat ramp and fishing pier provide easy access for those activities, and there is also a swimming beach available if you want to take a dip!

When you’re staying at Colwell Lake Campground, make sure your furry friend stays on-leash at all times. Also make sure you clean up after your dog at the campground. There is no lifeguard at the swimming beach—swim at your own risk here. It's unclear if dogs are allowed in the swimming area, so pay attention to signage and contact the campground staff if you have any queries.
