Crab Flats is a peaceful family campground in Running Springs, California within the San Bernardino National Forest. There are 28 sites to choose from, including five first-come-first-served sites, and the campground can accommodate tents and RVs. Large trailers may not make it up the hill to the site because of the steep and narrow road with several washouts, so your vehicle must be under 28 feet. Your dog can join you for your camping excursion, but they must remain on a leash when they're outside of your vehicle.
Your campsite at Crab Flats comes equipped with a table, a campfire ring, and a grill. Drinking water is also available, but there are no showers. Crab Flats is used as a staging area for ATVs and OHVs, so in addition to your regular vehicle, one legally towed vehicle is included in your camping fee. There are hiking, biking, and off-road vehicles surrounding the campground, and visitors highly recommend trekking the Crab Creek Trail to enjoy its incredible views.
Whether you're an experienced or beginner off-roader, there are trails around the campground to suit you. Choose from the 9.7-mile Redonda Ridge Trail if you're looking for a challenge, or opt for the 10.8-mile Holcomb Valley Road Trail for a more leisurely ride. Other recreational activities aren't far from Crab Flats, including Green Valley Lake, which is only six miles away. At Green Valley Lake, you can boat, swim, or fish. Anglers will appreciate that this nine-acre lake is regularly stocked with all sorts of fish.
The busiest time of year at Crab Flats is summertime, and if you're planning to visit on a holiday weekend, you must stay for a minimum of three nights. Reservations can be made as late as 24 hours before your visit or up to six months in advance.
Whether you come to Crab Flats to enjoy the OHV trails or you're just looking for a beautiful camping getaway, you and your dog are sure to fall in love with this furrific campground!
