Description

Deer Flat Boat-in CampgroundĀ is uniquely the only boat-in campground located on New Hogan Dam and Lake found in California. This 4000-acre lake located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, providing campers with unlimited access to wildlife.

The campground is located adjacent to the Fiddleneck Day Use Area for boat launching, and guests are permitted to park and launch their boats from the area free of charge when staying on the campgrounds. The site is only accessible by boat, making your camping experience truly unique and it only costs $12 per night (with a maximum of 8 guests).

This campground is tent-only, therefore, RVs and pop-ups can't be accommodated. In total, there are 30 rustic sites available, all located right on the tip of a peninsula on the lake. Trash bins can be found scattered throughout the facilities and there are vault washrooms available for guests to use. Unfortunately, there is no drinking water or showers available, so guests are asked to plan for this in advance. Each site does come with a fire-ring and lantern post, though, for guests to enjoy at their convenience.

Dogs are permitted to accompany you to the campground, however, you are asked to keep them on a leash at all times. Pet waste cleanup is mandatory, so don't forget your poop bags and remember to bring lots of water to keep your pup hydrated throughout their stay.

When at the campground, there are a variety of activities to enjoy. Take your pup on a hike through the surrounding forests and be on the lookout for beautiful bald and golden eagles, hawks, deer, rabbits, turkey, ducks, woodpeckers, various snakes (including rattlesnakes), bobcats, and even mountain lions. If you're looking for fun on the water, water activities include water skiing, tubing, wake-boarding, and, of course, swimming. The waters are abundant in various fish species including crappie, catfish, and bass, making it an anglerā€™s dream.

Next time you're in search of a unique camping experience, take a boat ride up to your site at the Deer Flat Boat-in Campground and have a relaxing stay!
