Description

The French Camp Campground is a perfect spot for those traveling on Highway 395 near Tom’s Place in need of a dog-friendly place to set up. Located along the Rock Creek Road, with the Crowley Lake and Owens River nearby, the French Camp Campground is a heaven on earth for anyone who enjoys fishing, swimming, hiking, and boating.

This rather big, seasonal campground boasts 86 campsites and is open for part of the year from early May until the end of October. Sage and pine trees provide enough shade for each site, the majority of which can easily accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers, but not all of the sites accommodate all vehicle sizes. Some sites are exclusive to RVs and tents, so it’s important to let them know when you reserve a space the size of vehicle you have.

Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire pit as well as bear lockers where you can store your food because bears and mountain lions are a hazard here. The grounds also have tap water available for your pooch's water bowl, as well as restrooms equipped with flushing toilets. The campgrounds, although big, are quite secluded and quiet, and the sites that are closest to the creek have the largest trees and more shade.

You can enjoy beautiful views of the Rock Creek Canyon and the White Mountains from here, and the nearby lakes are full of fish, making this campground perfect for fishing and boating enthusiasts. Those fond of sports will enjoy biking, hiking, and climbing, while those who wish to relax and explore can do so with wildlife spotting. Wildlife is rich here and includes mountain lions, black bears, pine martens, and mule deer (among others) and the geology makes this campground pretty popular too due to the large amount of rockery and boulders. This makes rockhounding another popular recreation among campers.

The French Camp is a pet-friendly site, so you can bring Fido along, just remember that campground regulations state your dog should be leashed. Since this is an active bear area, make sure to keep your dog supervised at all times and always clean up after them.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
