Hayward Flat is one of the most popular campgrounds in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, and it isn't hard to see why! This campground has 98 units positioned on five different loops in Redding, California and it's located on an arm of Trinity Lake.Â
Hayward Flat can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, but some spots are tent-only. Ponderosa pine trees and Douglas firs give campers all the shade they need, and two of the loops, Dogwood and Elderberry, have direct lake access for campers. Leashed pets are welcome to join their humans at Hayward Flat, so there's no need to leave Rex at home!
Your campsite at Hayward Flat will have a picnic table, a paved parking spur, and a campfire ring. Most sites also have bear-safe food lockers, and campers are required to use them due to bear activity in the area. Campers should also watch out for bobcats and mountain lions. The campground has an amphitheater, and during certain times of the year, it hosts educational events. Event dates will be posted at the campground, so keep an eye out for them during your stay.
Hayward Flat is a very pawpular campground with water sports enthusiasts, and all sorts of aquatic activities are just minutes away. There are a few informal mooring sites at the campground, but only three miles away you'll find a boat ramp and a marina. Anglers can fish for bass, trout, catfish, and salmon on Trinity Lake, or choose from power and non-motorized boating, waterskiing, swimming, and other water sports.Â
If you need a break from the water, head to the nearby town of Weaverville, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was once a mining town, and today, Weaverville is home to self-guided walking tours, shopping, and great restaurants.
Some first-come-first-served sites are available, but reservations are always recommended so you don't miss out on your spot at Hayward Flat Campground!
