Description

Island Park Campground is the pawfect place for a Fido-friendly Pine Flat Lake getaway! Nestled on the slopes of the pine and oak-studded Sierra Foothills, just thirty-five minutes from Fresno, RV campers will get the most out of this patch. Twenty-five out of the ninety-seven sites have water and RV hook-ups. Tent campers will have to console themselves with the gorgeous lakeside views! There’s also a well-maintained shower station. Careful though -- not all of the sites are shaded, so plan carefully if you’re visiting in the height of summer. Some sites are set aside for walk-ins, but it’s still best to make a reservation, and you can book from three days to six months in advance. You’ll also find a convenience store nearby, so there’s no need to waste precious backpack space on provisions!

Avid birders will be glad to know that the lake attracts a small population of red-tailed hawks, among other flying feathered critters. If casting a line is your idea of a good time, you’re in luck -- Pine Flat Lake is well stocked with bass and several species of trout, and you can cook your catch on one of the grills provided with every campsite. Boat rentals are also available, but make sure your doggo has a lifejacket if you’re heading out on the water!

There’s a quarter-mile long interpretative nature trail nearby that’s well worth a wander, but serious hound-dog hikers will need to venture a little fur-ther afield to find a route they can get their teeth into. Edison Point Wildlife Area is just a seven-minute drive away and boasts a two-mile loop trail with some moderate inclines.

Wifi isn’t available at Island Park, though most networks should receive fair-to-middling cell service. It might be a good idea to check with your provider before you leave if you need to stay in constant contact. Fires are permitted, but only within designated rings, and regulations can change with the weather. Drinking water is available on-site. Remember to bring waste bags for your buddy, and have a furrific time!

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
