Jones Lake State Park

If you're looking for a unique nature experience, abundant recreational activities, and a pet-friendly campground, Jones Lake State Park has got you covered. Located in Bladen County, North Carolina, this 2,208-acre park offers something to entertain and excite travelers of all ages.

The park sits around two of North Carolina's gorgeous bay lakes -- Jones Lake and Salters Lake -- which are home to a unique variety of native plants and animals. Boating is a popular pastime in the park, with motors that are 10 horsepower and under allowed out on the water. Alternatively, you can rent a canoe or paddleboat from the boathouse adjacent to the pier from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Jones Lake features a sandy beach which is the perfect spot for swimming and sunbathing in the summer months. Because the water in the lake is shallow, with a depth of 8.7 feet, it's popular with swimmers of all ages. Pier fishing is also available in the park, but the acidity of the water means there are only limited fish species present.

If you want to explore on foot, Jones Lake State Park features several miles of hiking trails. The four-mile Bay Trail, which leads you on a loop around Jones Lake, is a highlight.

When you're ready to set up camp for the night, the Jones Lake campground offers 20 wooded campsites for tents, trailers, and RVs. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring/grill.

There are no entrance fees for North Carolina state parks, but make sure to check the camping fee that applies when booking a site. You'll also need to ensure that you're a responsible pet owner for the duration of your stay -- this means you'll need to follow all posted rules, keep your dog on a leash, and clean up after them whenever necessary.
