Juniper Lake Stock Corral

Bring your horse for a camping adventure in the mountains of Lassen Volcanic National Park. Juniper Lake Stock Corral is on the eastern shore of the reservoir. Come here to enjoy trail rides in the wilderness. You can also walk to the water to go canoeing, fishing, or swimming. This furrific facility has pit toilets, horse corrals, picnic areas, and fire rings. You'll need to make advanced reservations and obtain a backcountry permit to camp here. The campground is tent-only.

There are two metal corrals and troughs for your horses here, but you'll need to bring enough water to last your stay as there is no drinking water available here. The campsites are under some pine trees and within walking distance of the lake. Head to shore to watch the sunset over the water. Take a fun trip to the peak of Mount Harkness. From Juniper Lake, the hike is about 3.8 miles. Follow switchbacks up the cinder cone crater and across the ridge to the active fire lookout. Watch where you step; there are crickets and grasshoppers everywhere. Enjoy the panoramic scenery from the tower. 

For a unique experience, take the Devils Kitchen Trail. You'll be hiking up and down through forests and meadows and across footbridges to reach the hydrothermal area. Wander among the steam vents, boiling springs, and boiling mud pots here. 

This national park allows for camping with your pup if they're on-leash. However, they're not allowed on the trails. You'll need someone to stay with Fido when you want to explore the area. Always remove your furry pal's waste and throw it in the garbage. 

Adventure is waiting for you and your four-legged friends at Juniper Lake Stock Corral! This area offers water recreation, horseback riding, and hiking. Enjoy the variety of wildlife and wildflowers here. There are bears nearby -- use the lockers that the park provides for storing your food and anything else that may attract unwanted guests. There's a $25 per vehicle entrance fee to access the park and campground.
