Kyen Campground and Oak Grove Day-Use Area, located in beautiful Lake Mendocino in California, is a popular tourist attraction for a wide array of visitors looking to explore the redwood forests and the delicious wine varieties available nearby.
The campground boasts a 1,822-acre lake, Lake Mendocino, a natural formation formed from the meeting of the Coyote Dam on the Russian River, which is perfect for water recreation such as boating, swimming, and water skiing. There is also plenty of opportunity for fishing and birdwatching.
The ecosystem consists of oak groves (hence the name), pine forests, and manzanitas, which provide shaded areas for visitors and wildlife. It also has created multiple natural trails around the lake, like the Shakota Trail, a three-mile trail that offers you and Fido beautiful lakefront access and views.
The campground itself is family-friendly whether you are staying overnight or just visiting for the day. There are 93 camping sites for tent camping and some optional RV electric hookups. Picnic shelters are available for group gatherings, and you can find tables and grills to make your stay more enjoyable.
Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash or under voice control at all times. Of course, it is expected that you clean up after yourself and your furry family while you are visiting.
Nearby, you can explore the city of Ukiah, where you can find places to fill up on fuel, dining and shopping opportunities, and tourist attractions like museums and recreation. Ukiah also has plenty of pet-friendly places to go, so feel free to bring Fido along for the adventure!
