Lakes Basin

Lakes Basin is a popular campsite that rests in the spectacular mountains of Plumas National Forest. It is located in the Sierra Nevada region of northern California, one of the most highly-regarded areas for camping the whole U.S. The site doesn’t just have an amazing backdrop; it also offers a wealth of outdoor activities for campers to enjoy throughout their stay. The campsite is surrounded by majestic conifers and granite boulders, and there are a number of glacial lakes in the surrounding area as well, providing an enchanting mountain setting for your camping trip. The campsite is a single loop, and it offers drinking water and trash collection to enhance your stay. While you might want to just relax at the campground and enjoy the company of your dog, there are many activities available in the vicinity that you can take fill your time with as well. You can hike through Plumas National Forest to see some of the amazing wildlife it has to offer; you can also stop by Plumas Eureka State Park to learn about the Gold Rush. Boating, fishing, and swimming are also popular activities to enjoy at nearby Gold Lake.

When you’re visiting Lakes Basin, there are a few things you’ll want to remember to make your camping trip as safe and enjoyable as possible. The campsite is in an area with bears, so make sure you take the necessary bear safety measures, such as keeping food safely stored. Also note that RVs can only be parked at certain sites.

Please note that there is conflicting information regarding the pet fee for this campsite. According to Recreation.gov, a $3 fee per pet applies. However, according to the official U.S. Forest Service entry for this campground, there is no pet fee. We advise calling ahead to confirm the pet fee before booking.
