The Middle Lion Campground is a small, peaceful campground located in Ojai, California. It is quite isolated and can be tricky to find, but according to those who have camped there, it is worth the search.Â
The first-come-first-served campground is relatively small, comprising of only eight small sites for tents, vans, or trailers. However, it is situated among mature, green cottonwoods and by a beautiful creek with mountain views. It is the perfect, secluded location for a romantic getaway or a weekend outdoors with the family. It is well-shaded and conveniently located next to several hiking trails and a waterfall. If you go hiking alone, make sure to inform someone beforehand as there is no cell service at the location.Â
Since the Middle Lion Campground is dog-friendly, canine companions won’t have to sit this one out -- as long as they remain leashed. Bring your pooch along and enjoy the Sespe Wilderness, sounds of the creek and crickets, fresh air, and star-filled night skies together!Â
Each campsite features a fire ring, a barbeque grill, and a picnic table. Vault bathrooms are nearby and consist of a well-kept pit. There is no water available close by, other than the creek and waterfall, so please keep that in mind and pack enough for the whole trip. Bringing bug repellant and wet wipes is recommended as well, since there are no showers at the campground.Â
Since there are only a couple of campsites, the campground rarely feels crowded, and campers can enjoy nature with little to no disturbance from others. However, since the campsites cannot be reserved, you need to come prepared with an alternative location for the night in case they are all taken, or sleep in your RV, as long as it is under 20 feet long. Lastly, please don’t forget to pack dog waste bags and clean up after your furry friend during your stay.Â
The $20 per night fee includes one vehicle and either a tent, a trailer, or an RV. Visitors pay an additional $10 per extra vehicle. Â
