Orland Buttes Campground is a furrific spot for a Fido-friendly waterside getaway! Perched on the side of Sacramento Valley gem Black Butte Lake, this campground isn’t quite so primitive in terms of facilities as many others in the area. Although none of the sites have electricity or RV hook-ups, you will have access to showers and flushing toilets. And of course, the location is spectacularly scenic -- most campsites have views of the gorgeously serene lake, and the area is surrounded by natural blue oak forest and striking rock formations. Not all of the campsites are shaded though, so plan accordingly! There’s also a group campsite, making Orland Buttes a grrr-eat choice for a family reunion or other group event. The campground does get quite busy during the high season, so it’s best to make your reservation early. There's no entrance fee to the area itself, and sites are $20.
Not only that, but you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to recreation options. Black Butte Lake is famous for its warm waters, and the entire family is free to go for a dip -- even four-legged family members! If casting a line is your idea of a good time, you’ll be glad to know that the lake is well-stocked with crappie, bass and other species of fish. There’s a fish cleaning station at the campground, and you can cook your catch at one of the grills provided with every site. Hound-dog hikers will be glad to know that there are several fur-friendly trails in the area, including the paved, accessible Paul Thomas Trail.
Wifi isn’t available at Orland Buttes Campground, but most networks should get fair to middling cellular coverage, making this an ideal choice for campers who need to stay in constant contact (or those who just can’t wait to wait to share those vacation selfies). Fires are permitted, but only in designated rings, and regulations can change with the weather. Drinking water is also available on-site. Remember to bring waste bags to clean up after your buddy, and have a pawesome time!
