If you don't mind humidity and a nice summer rain, make sure you and your canine companion spend some time at Palmetto Shores RV Resort. Palmetto Shores is located in Summerton, South Carolina, but don't be surprised to hear locals refer to the area as "North Santee." Daily rates for RV sites start at just $50, while daily rates for cabins start at $115. (Doggos aren't allowed in the cabins, though, so Fido will need to sit this one out if you prefer "glamping" to camping!)
One nice thing about Palmetto Shores is that there's quick access to both fun and food. The resort has a pool located on-site, and you're also able to go swimming in Lake Marion. There's also an on-site mini-golf course, which is perfect for both children and adults. There's also a combination snack shop and general store. Chow down on some delicious pizza or hot dogs, then finish the meal off with an ice cream cone. The store also has arcade-style games available to play.
Your furry friend is also welcome at the resort! As is the case at most campgrounds, your dog will need to be on their leash at all times. There are plenty of places around the campground for you to take Sparky for a walk, but there isn't an off-leash area. As always, remember to clean up after your dog. There are plenty of trash receptacles around, but you'll want to bring your own bags from home.Â
One thing many visitors complain about is the lack of cell phone reception. Coverage for most carriers is spotty at best, and at times, it can be nearly impossible to get a signal. If you find this to be the case, your best option is to drive one mile south to Santee, where coverage is much better. Santee also has a veterinarian office, so if you need care for your pet on your trip, you won't have to venture far.
