Description

Ponderosa Cove campground is a popular public campground located in the Eldorado National Forest, approximately 15 miles away from Georgetown, California. The dog-friendly campground is nestled away in a small valley, opposite of the Stumpy Meadows Reservoir. Although it is highly-rated, this hidden gem can be tricky to get to as there are no cell services within a few miles of the campground and the road leading up to it is steep and narrow. However, according to the frequent patrons that stay at Ponderosa Cove, the bumpy journey is worth it.

The campground is surrounded by beautiful and fragrant Ponderosa pines that the campground was named after and situated by an active stream that often features trout and salamander. In addition to taking in the scenery, there are plenty of activities for patrons to enjoy, from fishing, swimming and boating at the scenic reservoir to hiking on one of the hundreds of trails that run throughout the national park, visiting the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, and bird watching. The campground is the perfect spot for an all things outdoorsy, and for just an additional $2, patrons get to enjoy it all with their canine companions at their side.

The campground is made up of a single loop of campsites that can hold up groups of up to 75 people. Although the site needs to be reserved for large groups, family campsites are available on a first-come-first-served basis -- as long as no prior reservations have been made for them. The campground also features five RV or trailer sites and ten walk-to tent spots.

With each campsite being equipped with a fire ring, charcoal grill, and picnic table, there is not much more you will need to enjoy your time outdoors. All the campsites are sheltered and well-spaced-out, which means the patrons get some privacy and get to enjoy the nature and wilderness surrounding them without any disturbances. There are two vault toilets and a water faucet at the campground. However, with the water supply often shut off, it is always safest to bring your own supply.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
