Campground meets resort at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, where nature is manicured but still accessible. This privately owned facility has everything you need for a laidback vacation, and your pooch is welcome to come and enjoy the fun as well! Better yet, the campground is easy to get to, as it is only just a short drive from the city of San Diego.
More than 300 full hookup RV sites are offered at this campground, but don't worry -- there is a small area for tent camping as well. Cabins are also available to rent, though four-legged visitors are not allowed in these shelters. There is a $4 admission fee for each vehicle, and site prices start at $46 per night. You'll have everything you could possibly need for your vacation at your fingertips, including a clubhouse, RV storage, and a grill that serves food for purchase down by the water. And you don't need to feel guilty enjoying all of these amenities -- the facility uses solar panels to power 50% of all energy used here!
You don't have to leave the grounds to have a good time, as the Santee Lakes provide all sorts of recreation to visitors. Head out in a rental boat and explore the many islands nearby, or purchase a permit to cast a few lines into the well-stocked waters. There are two in-ground swimming pools on the property along with a jacuzzi and a "sprayground" for the kiddos. Multiple playgrounds are also scattered through the premises, meaning your mini-campers will stay busy for hours.
While canines are allowed in the campground, keep in mind there is a $2 fee per dog, per night. The campground asks that you do not bring dogs into the day-use area, or any other area marked as pet-free. There are special dog walking zones where you can let your fur buddy get their exercise, but always remember to stoop and scoop after your pet and never leave a woofer unattended during your stay.Â
For your next vacation or special event, Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve offers a great mix of outdoor fun and at-home amenities.Â
