Description

Skillman Campground is located in the middle of the Tahoe National Forest, a one-million-acre landscape that spans through six different counties. The lush landscape here is both varied and tranquil, offering multiple activities for daytrippers and campers alike. Generally quite dog-friendly, Skillman provides a great daytime hiking spot for dog owners looking to have an adventure with their companion.

Camping is offered here for both equestrians and non-equestrians alike via 11 different sites. If you're looking to spend the night with your horses, a total of 5 of these sites contain one or more horse corrals. Skillman has also placed water troughs and hitching posts throughout the length of the campgrounds. The non-equestrian single sites all come standard with typical camping amenities like fire rings and picnic tables, as well as taps for drinking water and parking for up to either two standard vehicles or one four-horse trailer. If you're looking to bring a large group, a series of 5 sites have been set up for just this purpose and can sleep up to 36. Dogs are allowed here as well, provided they're kept on a leash and sleep in your tent with you. The costs listed above are for non-equestrian sites inside of Skillman only. Equestrian sites run $110 per night.

Hiking is very popular in the area thanks to Pioneer Trail, a 25-mile stretch that winds through the surrounding Tahoe National Forest. Riders on horseback, cyclists, and hikers are all allowed here, so visiting guests should always keep an eye on their surroundings to avoid any unwanted run-ins. As lengths of the trail are relatively challenging, it's wise to explore with a fully charged cell phone as well as proper footwear. Make sure to clean up any messes left on the ground if you decide you're taking Fido along for the trip.

During the colder seasons, these trails open up to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. For more information on season dates and equipment rentals, make sure to contact the Skillman campground's main offices.Ā All entry costs listed on this page are specific to Skillman CampgroundĀ and do not reflect the costs of any surrounding public areas or attractions.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
