Description

Located in California's Lassen Volcanic National Park is Summit Lake Campground. Summit Lake Campground is divided into two separate Camping facilities, Summit Lake North and Summit Lake South, with 94 sites in total. Both Campgrounds give visitors access to the nearby Summit Lake, where you can find swimming, boating, fishing and other water activities.

The Summit Lake North Campground is ideal for RVs and tents and costs $24 per night. It is important to know RVs are not permitted in Summit Lake South, they are only allowed in the North. Summit Lake North also has flush toilets and drinking water available. All campsites come with a picnic table, fire-grate, and bear-proof storage box. Food is to be stored in the box at all time to avoid contact with bears as they frequent the area.

There are a variety of hiking trails located close by for you to enjoy, covering over 150 miles. The Lassen Volcanic National Park is riddled with over 300 active volcanic domes for you to explore as you hike the trails, as well as steam vents and mud pots. To learn more about the volcanic activity, visit the amphitheater found right inside the campground, where educational programs are frequently delivered.

Dogs are permitted at Summit Lake North Campground, however, there are regulations that must be followed. These include keeping your pup on a leash six feet in length or shorter and under your supervision at all times. You are allowed to leave your dog unattended when tied up on the site, or inside of a camping vehicle, but if they are ever perceived to be in danger, you will be fined.

Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on any hiking trails in Lassen Volcanic Park, the primary reason being they can disrupt wildlife, and for their own safety as volcanic soils can cause them severe harm. They are also not permitted in bodies of water so be sure to find other ways to keep them hydrated.

When searching for a camping location with modern amenities, that gives you access Lassen Volcanic National Park, don't forget about Summit Lake North Campground.
