Upper Oso Campground, located in Santa Barbara, California, is praised by many as one of the best family camping spots you can visit. Located among the coastal mountains and plentiful oak trees, the various trails and seasonal streams offer ample opportunity for exploration. The oak trees provide ample shade for the 25 sights located right next to a seasonal creek.
Although the campground accepts tent and RV camping, you might want to make a reservation as they are very popular, particularly at peak times during the summer months. This is, in part, because the grounds are open throughout the year, offering recreational activities like hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.Â
It’s not only dog-friendly, as long as they are kept on a leash, but also horse friendly and boasts horse trails, corrals, and a watering station specifically for horses. For off-road enthusiasts, there are nearby ATV trails and those who enjoy fishing will love the trout-rich waters of the Santa Ynez River. Within two miles of the campgrounds, you can also enjoy swimming at the White Rock Day Use Area.
While the majority of sites can be reserved, a limited number of them are available on a first come, first serve basis, but you’ll be pleased to know that every site comes with a picnic table, fire pit, and an adjustable grill.
This is a pet-friendly site, but it’s always best to mention your pooch when making a reservation during busy periods and of course clean up after them while you’re there.
One thing to note about this campsite is that there might be some poison oak or fire ants in some areas, so make sure you’re prepared and always ask if there are any areas to avoid when you get there.Â
