Description

Wassamki Springs Campground is a family-owned and operated campground located eight miles from Portland in the beautiful town of Scarborough, Maine. The well-maintained campground is the go-to spot in the area for casual campers or those looking for affordable accommodation and easy camping while exploring Portland and its neighboring towns. Since the campground is both kid and pet-friendly, the entire family can experience the local attractions and enjoy everything this campground has to offer.

The campground is easily accessible and has a central location which makes exploring the nearby Casco Bay and Old Port convenient and fun. Casco Bay is home to seven stunning lighthouses, and Old Port features several historic buildings, as well as the Old Town Museum that will not only make you nostalgic but will also teleport you to a different, simpler time. Both districts are incredibly scenic, so even if you chose to skip the historic sites and opt for walks with your canine companions by the sandy coastline, you will have great memories from your trip to look back on.

Even without leaving the campground, patrons can enjoy free scheduled activities on weekends such as hayrides, bonfires, and movie nights,  as well as free live entertainment. Plus, the campground features two playgrounds, a snack bar, a campground store, a swimming lake, and, most importantly, a dog run! It's not large, but it offers a fenced grassy space for dogs to socialize and exercise leash-free. All other areas of the campground require all pets to be supervised and leashed.

Since the campground sits by a 30-acre lake, it features a lot of spacious lakefront sites which are either sunny or shaded. However, not all of the sites are located by the water, so make sure to call in advance to book the best site. Each campsite comes equipped with a fire ring and a picnic table, and most sites have water and electric hookups available. Cable TV and wifi is accessible too, which is one of the reasons this campground is great for first-time campers or those who value comfort over primitive camping or getting away from civilization, especially since there is an airport nearby that can cause some noise pollution. The campground features clean restrooms with free hot showers and laundry facilities. The campground’s surface consists of well-manicured grass and some sandy areas, which is why it is less popular with those looking for wilderness camping but great for dogs as they are less likely to be exposed to ticks.

Whether you are visiting family or friends in Portland, looking for a peaceful place by the water for a fishing trip, or simply in search of a dog-friendly campground, your stay at the Wassamki Springs Campground will be a pleasant one. Daily rates start at $30 per night.

Wag! does not allow or encourage Pet Care Providers to bring dogs to parks.
