Wolf Run State Park

Tucked away in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio, Wolf Run State Park offers a pet-friendly nature escape around 100 miles east of Columbus. Spanning 1,046 acres, the park includes picturesque woodlands and the clean, refreshing waters of the 220-acre Wolf Run Lake.

As you'd expect, many recreational activities in this popular park occur on or around the water. Anglers can try their luck at catching bass, bluegill, crappie, trout, and catfish, while boats of up to 10 horsepower are permitted on the lake. There's also a 200-foot public swimming beach on the lake's south side, but be aware that dogs are not allowed on the beach.

Your pet is welcome to join you elsewhere in the park, like while you explore one of the hiking trails on offer. You can access a 3.5-mile section of the Buckeye Trail along the lake's western edge, meander along an easy half-mile loop that begins at the nature center, or enjoy the scenery along the 1.5-mile Lakeview Trail. In winter, sledding and cross-country skiing are also popular.

If you'd rather just enjoy some relaxation time with your furry friend, there are plenty of relaxing spots where you can spread out in the sun and enjoy a picnic. Alternatively, you can book ahead to reserve a shelter.

Campers in Wolf Run State Park have their pick of 71 electric and 67 non-electric sites. Pets are welcome to camp with you, while picnic tables, fire rings, and vault restrooms are all provided.

If you're taking your pet with you to the park, make sure that they're always on a leash of six feet or less and that they're under your control at all times. Taking care to clean up after your dog is also a must, and will help ensure that sites like this continue to welcome our canine companions with open arms.
