West 87th Street Dog Run is home to two separate fenced enclosures: one for big dogs and one for small dogs. Both enclosures have a dirt and gravel ground, and they both have lots of space for dogs to run and play with other pups. There are also plenty of trees to keep the area shady and cool on hot days.
While your dog plays, you can watch from one of the numerous benches in the dog park. If your pup gets thirsty, the dog run has a hose you can use to fill their water bowl. There are also doggy bags available in the park. Like in all New York City parks, dogs who are using the West 87th Street Dog Run must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. Dog owners are required to carry proof that their pup is vaccinated and licensed with them.
If you’d like to go for a long walk with your pup after they’re finished playing in the dog park, head to Riverside Park’s promenade. Dogs are welcome on this promenade on-leash at all times, and they can also go on the walkway off-leash from 9 PM to 9 AM. This scenic paved promenade stretches for four miles from 72nd Street to 158th Street, and it offers stunning views of the Hudson River.
