Just behind the Metropolitan Airports Commission administrative offices at MSP Airport lies an 80-acre parcel of land that has gone to the dogs, literally! Commonly referred to as the Airport Dog Park, this unofficial pooch park is a leash-free haven for the Twin Cities' canine residents. Here, your furry BFF will find more than enough room to stretch their legs, as well as lots of doggie pals to play with!
Located just south of Highway 62, the Airport Dog Park is sandwiched between Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, a large swamp/wetland area, and a lot where you can park for free. In addition to the vast open space where your pup can run to their heart's content, the site offers trails and small patches of trees that you can explore together. And because of its proximity to the airport, it's a furrific spot to watch airplanes land and take off. Note that the area is not entirely fenced, so make sure your pooch has good recall, or wait until you're far enough away from the road before you unclip their leash. You can also just keep it on—your dog will probably be too busy taking in all the exciting sights and smells to notice anyway!
No permit is required to use the Airport Dog Park, but pup parents are expected to police themselves and clean up after their four-legged charges. Remember to bring your own water and doggie waste bags, as these are not provided. There are no garbage bins on-site, either, so you'll have to carry out whatever Fido puts down. Also, be mindful of any “no trespassing” signs and make sure your dog doesn't wander into areas that are off-limits.
For a pawsome time that's sure to tucker your pup out, spend an afternoon at the Airport Dog Park!Â
