Just outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota is the town of Burnsville. It's a suburban town where there are some nice restaurants, a mall, and a movieplex; all of the things you might expect to see. And then, the most important feature of the town, there's the dog park.
The Alimagnet Dog Park is really something special. It's over seven acres of fenced, off-leash paradise for your puppy. It has open grassland for a dog to run and lots of trees to provide piddle targets and plenty of interesting smells. It has everything you've come to expect in a dog park, and then some. Of course, there is a double-gate for safety, and there are poop bags and trash receptacles for your convenience.Â
There are benches and a couple of picnic table. There's a sizable pond, a cedar wood chip path that goes around the park, and a dog washing station that's open during the summer. There's also a separate enclosure for small and/or fragile dogs, such as elderly dogs or dogs with disabilities. This enclosure has it's own entry, meaning you can access it without going through the main park.
As everyone knows, winter comes to Minnesota early and hard. But Minnesotans aren't about to let some, or even a lot, of snow slow them down. Alimagnet has a heated shelter, heated water bowls, and outdoor lighting that comes on at sunset, regardless of the calendar. Park patrons and volunteers routinely shovel snow from the front gate, allowing access to the park during winter. They post notification once the pond is frozen enough for skating. Given all of these features, it's easy to see why Alimagnet was voted one of the best parks in the nation by Dog Fancy magazine.
Alimagnet is owned and managed by the city of Burnsville but the park has lots of fans and supporters who help with maintenance. There is plenty of room for your dog at Aligmagnet, but you will also find more than a few dog people who are always around to give directions and advice and just share human companionship. You will find plenty of that "Minnesota Nice" at Alimagnet Dog Park.Â
