The section of land dedicated to this dog park is quite a large swath. Overall, the dog park spans ten acres. Small dogs have a separate section inside for them alone comprising a full two acres of the park. This section is specifically dedicated to canines who are under 25 lbs. There is plenty of room to play games that would require a lot of space. There is plenty of space to run and really wear out your canine regardless of their energy or size.
Biodegradable waste bags are provided and in an effort to go green the city requires you to use the bags they have provided for you. Watering stations, ample seating, and shade can be found throughout the entire section. Parking is available at no cost and this is part of a larger part of walking trails, sports fields, and other recreational facilities.
The city does ask that you register your canines for the park at some cost and it does require you bring them proof of rabies vaccination. You can get this registration at many locations, which can be found on their website. Annual permits are available at a total cost of $42 for the full year. You can get cheaper options available for fewer months out of the year, all the way down to a pass just for the week or day. This is all on a per dog basis but additional dogs are always half price. These permits are enforced by the city of Ames.
