Crystal clear water, white sand, warm sea breezes, and palm trees? Yes, please! Bahia Honda State Park is a gorgeous getaway in the Florida Keys. Located on Bahia Honda Key, it is the pawfect place to have some fun in the sun with your favorite four legged friend!
Leashed dogs are welcome to join you in Bahia Honda State Park, with some restrictions. Pets are not
allowed on the beaches, in the water, or in cabins, bathhouses, pavilions or
buildings.
Furtunately, doggos are welcome to explore the park’s
nature trail. It is located in the Calusa area on the southwest end of the island.
Follow the trail as it winds to the top of the Old Bahia Honda Bridge. Once
your pup makes it to the bridge, they will have a panoramic view of the entire
island. Plus, if the water is calm, they can spot some of the marine wild life
like fish and sea turtles. The park is prime bird habitat, so keep your eyes
peeled for Herons, Snowy Egrets, Plovers, and Sanderlings. If you come across
any wildlife, make sure your pup minds their manners. Also, always have water and clean-up bags on hand, and pick up after your pooch.
Canine guests are also welcome in all three of the park’s campgrounds. Buttonwood Campground has the largest sites and can accommodate anything from an RV to a small pop-up tent. Each site has electricity and some waterfront spots are available. Bayside Campground is a bit more primitive. There are only eight campsites and none of them have electricity. Only some of the campsites in Sandspur Campground have electricity. Since it is located in a hardwood hammock, clearance is limited. All of the park’s campsites have water, a picnic table, and a grill.
Your doggo will go mutts over this island paradise!
