The Barker Field Dog Park at Byrd Park is also known by the locals as Dogwood Dell. The park is located south of the War Memorial. There is parking available. However, parking on the grass is prohibited. Dogs that visit the designated area need to have proof of vaccination and license. Tags are to be placed on the dog collar and visible to other pet parents.Â
Your dog will enjoy running around the Barker Field Dog Park at Byrd Park and playing with all of the other dogs. There is water available in a community dog bowl during the warmer months, but you will need to bring water along for your dog during winter because they shut off the water to prevent frozen pipes.
The dog park is also welcoming to pet parents since it has benches located throughout the park near tall trees that provide shade. You can sit and relax while you watch your dog run, play and socialize with other dogs. You can also bring along a ball or toy to play a game of fetch with your dog. Sometimes when the park is busy, other dogs join in the game.Â
Dogs that show aggression towards others need to be removed from the Barker Field Dog Park at Byrd Park immediately on a leash by their pet parent. Aggression towards humans or other dogs is not tolerated. Pet parents are responsible for any injury to others or damage to property caused by their dog when visiting the dog park.Â
Remember to bring along doggie poop bags to clean up after your dog. This is a mandatory dog park rule that must be followed. It is wise to bring along a few extra bags just in case they are needed, or you can kindly offer them to other pet parents that have run out of their supply. Overall, this is a lovely dog park to visit daily. Your dogs will have a great time, and you will sit and relax as they play.Â
