Davis doggos are furtunate—with several official off-leash areas around the city, it's easy for four-legged residents to get their daily exercise. Canines living in the east Mace Ranch neighborhood don't have to look further than the John Barovetto Park, a 7-acre green space situated in the corner of Alhambra Drive and Arroyo Avenue. Aside from being pooch-friendly, this park has a designated area where your furry pal can ditch the leash and go for an unfettered romp!
You and Fido will find the off-leash area in the southeast portion of the site—just keep your eyes peeled for the signs! Once your pup sets paw in the leash-free zone, they are free to sniff and run to their heart's content. It's impawtant to note that the area is not fenced, so it's better suited for canines who are trained and do well under voice control. Visitors say that there are no amenities except for a single bench, so remember to bring your own water and doggie waste bags. You may also want to bring a ball or frisbee to keep your pupper entertained.
If your pooch is still working on their recall, leave the leash on and take them for a stroll around the rest of the park so they can get the wiggles out. The John Barovetto Park features a bike path, natural and landscaped areas, picnic facilities, multi-use open fields, and a playground. But unless your pup is a service animal, they'll have to steer clear of the children's play area. Wherever your walk takes you, always pick up whatever Fido puts down.Â
Note that shade is limited at the site, so swing by when the sun isn't too strong to keep your pooch from overheating. Also, make sure Fido is licensed before you visit.
