Hidden behind a baseball field in the Haines Memorial State Park is a gem for local pooches. The expansive Barrington Dog Park is just waiting for your pup to explore. You can find this pawsome dog park by taking the road across from 5 Haines Park Road into the state park.
This fenced-in 2-acre space is a bare-bones park featuring one large area for dogs to romp off-leash. Whether getting in a game of fetch, or just hobnobbing with other neighborhood canines, your dog will love playing here. While plans are in motion to add a small dog section, if you have a tiny pooch, just be sure they don't mind running with the big dogs for now.
Barrington Dog Park is funded and maintained by donations, sponsorships, memberships and volunteers, and is open to all healthy dogs who are licensed, vaccinated for rabies and distemper, and over 4 months of age. Since this park is a work in progress, you'll need to bring water and a bowl for your thirsty pup. Clean-up bags and trash cans are provided to promptly pick up after your dog, but its always a good idea to have some bags on hand in case they run out. With a terrain of wood chips on dirt, the park can get a bit muddy at times, so you may want to bring a towel on wet days.
Always keep your dog leashed when entering and exiting the dog park, and anywhere outside of it. Be cautious around dawn and dusk as there are coyotes in the woods that can occasionally be seen. Since the dog park is located behind the baseball field, there may be baseballs on the ground or being thrown, so be sure your dog is not toy-possessive.
For a place to get out the wiggles, or just catch up on the local canine news, your dog will love a visit to the Barrington Dog Park!
