Blacksburg Dog Park (at Toms Creek Park)

The Blacksburg Dog Park is a public dog park located at the Toms Creek Park in Blacksburg, Virginia. In addition to the dog park, the nine-acre Toms Creek Park is home to baseball and softball fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, and public restrooms. The park is equipped with benches and shelters located throughout the park, as well as a spacious parking lot. 

The Blacksburg Dog Park was opened in November 2010 and has since become a popular location for canine socialization and community gatherings due to its offered amenities and easily accessible location. The dog park is securely fenced and has a double-gated entry system that helps minimize the risk of canines slipping out as others enter the park. 

This park is made up of two separate areas for dogs to exercise and play in without a leash. There is a large dog area for dogs over 30 pounds and a small dog run for those under, both of which provide enough space for pooches to have a good time. Though both areas are adequately shaded, the small dog area has more mature trees and thus more shade. 

Both sections feature benches and shade structures that make sure dog owners are comfortable and cool during their visit. The park’s surface consists of gentle, grassy slopes and well-mulched areas, as well as some areas that are covered in woodchips or dirt. The dog park is equipped with a fake fire hydrant, a dog shelter house and plenty of toys throughout the park. 

There is also a water hose that helps make sure canines remain hydrated, as well as a washing station which is very convenient since due to the park’s surface playtime can get muddy. Plus, there are doggie pools available during the summer to keep the four-legged furballs cool in the heat. In addition to the above, the park offers free waste bag dispensers and designated receptacles that keep the park clean and odorless.
