There's a lot to see in Bloomington, Minnesota. For instance, there's the Mall of America. There's also the Minnesota Zoo and the Minnesota aquarium. There is a beautiful Japanese-style garden, and, of course, quite a few indoor sports, like climbing walls. All of these options are great if you are visiting from out of town. But what if you live in Bloomington, and you have a dog? Well, fortunately, there's a dog place for you.
Bloomington Dog Park is a big park, 25 acres. It's covered in rolling grassland, dotted with trees and a large pond. It's described as a fenced dog park, but there is a part of the pond that is not fenced in, so if your dog is a real swimmer, keep that in mind.Â
Maybe that is what the city had in mind when they set up the park rules to require that owners have a leash in hand while at the park. The park is strictly off-leash, but people are expected to be able to leash their dog as quickly as possible if it becomes necessary.
The dog park is very carefully mowed and maintained. There are wood chip paths throughout the park. For your convenience, the park provides poop bags and trash cans, so you can clean after your dog. The park has fountains throughout the park for both people and puppies and just outside the park gates in order to clean off any mud or dirt once you're ready to go home. The fountains are turned off during the coldest part of the year.
The Bloomington Dog Park is not fancy, but it is a lot of fun. There is room to run and play fetch and there are trees to mark and a pond to paddle around in (puppies only, please, no people allowed). This is a nice place to spend an afternoon with your furry four-legged friend.Â
