Bonny Lake State Park

Located at Bonny Dam and Reservoir, this state park stays open 24 hours a day. It hosts a wide range of wildlife and is a great place to go camping or fishing. This park spans over 7,000 acres, 2,000 of which was the beautiful reservoir. Due to a legal dispute, the state of Colorado was forced to drain this reservoir and redistribute the billions of gallons of water between various states. This draining and distribution began in 2011. The park itself has remained open since then, but as the reservoir was one of the main attractions, it has lost some of its allure.

There is a dedicated dog park with a fenced area to allow for dogs to roam leashless, but outside this area, they could easily run away in this park if left unattended. However, for the well behaved dogs out there, it is hard to find a more beautiful spot to let them run and play. There is plenty of room for frisbee or other games. This park features a lot of hunting and camping. Recreational activities are also abundant, like fishing and space for all-terrain vehicles. It is a bit out of the way for most people to come out for the dog park alone, but it hosts plenty to do for family and friends.

The amenities at this park are available in certain areas. They have picnic tables, restrooms, and some structures to provide shade. These family-friendly areas are great for activities and you and the whole family can have a great time. If you enjoy the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hiking with your four-legged friend, then there are not many parks where you can enjoy so much wildlife. Come for a weekend and see all the abundant wildlife Colorado has to offer. See the dam and the remnants of the reservoir and enjoy some free space to roam with your canine.
