The Boylston Street Playground Off-Leash Dog Area is where pet parents living in Brookline, Massachusetts, can take their fur baby for some off-leash exercise time. This is not a dog park as such, but somewhere the city park authorities have designated specific hours for the use of the playground by the neighborhood canines.
The time is short, just three hours a day, but for the local pups, it's sweet. This off-leash dog area in Brookline is one of fourteen in the city which are operated under the Green Dog program. Some are operational only during the summer months, others like the Boylston Street Playground are functioning for twelve months of the year.
To be eligible to enjoy the off-leash hours in any of the Brookline parks with their pup, pet owners are required to register for the Green Dog Program and pay an annual participation fee. All dogs need to have reached a minimum age of six months, have completed their shots and be in possession of a dog license.
The annual fee for a resident is $50 per dog or $100 for professional dog walkers. Non-residents are required to pay $100 for a yearly permit. If visiting the city just for a short time, non-residents may opt to choose a two-day permit for $5 or one which is valid for a week at the price of $10. Applicants are issued with a Green Dog collar tag which must be worn at all times when in any of the Brookline off-leash dog areas.
Pet parents exercising their fur family member in any of the Green Dog program off-leash parks must realize that these are shared facilities. Exercising a dog off-leash outside of the specific allocated hours can result in loss of off-leash privileges. Cleaning up after a dog is imperative. Poop bags are not provided at any of the sites and owners are obliged to carry a supply with them.
