Callahan-Franklin Dog Park (at Larsen Nature Preserve)

The Callahan-Franklin Dog Park is a public dog park located at the Larsen Nature Preserve in Waukegan, Illinois. In addition to the dog park, the beautiful 34-acre nature preserve is home to a playground, a stream and pond, plenty of parking, and various trails for hiking and jogging.

Dogs are permitted on trails as long as they remain leashed. The dog park is highly rated and popular in the area due to its convenient location and offered amenities. It has a well-thought-out layout made up of three separate areas for dogs to enjoy without a leash. 

There is a small dog section for breeds under 30 pounds, a large dog run, and an agility area that is perfect for dogs who love a challenge. All three areas are securely fenced and provide plenty of space for dogs to stretch their legs, chase after balls and play with their four-legged buddies.

There is lots of open space and dogs remain visible throughout playtime without owners having to chase them through the off-leash areas. The dog park is equipped with human and canine drinking fountains, which help keep the park’s patrons hydrated throughout their visit. 

Free waste bag dispensers are also available, so please make sure to use them if you visit this wonderful dog park to keep it clean and poop-free. In addition to the above, there are benches and picnic tables that owners can relax on. 

Finding a shaded spot to cool off in won’t be an issue either as there are lots of trees growing around the dog park. The Callahan-Franklin Dog Park is the ideal spot for canine training, socialization, and off-leash exercise.
