The Carl Schurz Dog Park is located at East End Avenue and 86th Street in New York. The park is open from 9 AM to 9 PM every day and provides two off-leash runs. One is for small dogs under 30 pounds and the other is for large dogs over 30 pounds. The runs are open during normal park hours, however, they are closed to the general public each Wednesday and Thursday between 12:15 PM and 1:15 PM for use by the ASPCA.
The small dog run has a concrete level and provides plenty of benches, as well as a drinking area with bowls and hoses. At the same time, the large dog run has gravel, several benches, but also waste bags so that owners can clean up after their pets. An extra point goes to the little rock hills placed in this run, where dogs can climb and jump.
There is also shade and drinking water provided, as well as beautiful views overlooking the East River and a children's playground situated at the end of the park. The welcoming and pet-friendly atmosphere coupled with the picturesque vegetation offer visitors a chance to read, go picnicking, watch people pass by, and even sunbathe when the weather gets warmer.
Owners will also find plenty of shade and an area to hose off their dogs in the summer. The Carl Schurz Dog Park is a great place to exercise and socialize your pets at the same time while taking advantage of the promenade to stroll along the East River.
The two fenced-in run areas provide an excellent opportunity for dogs to run around, wag their tails, and play with each other. So, if you and your four-legged friend are looking for some outdoor fun, take a trip to the Carl Schurz Dog Park as a great alternative to the bustle of everyday New York.
