Just 12 miles west of Omaha, Nebraska is the Chalco Hills Recreation Area. Near the main entrance is a fenced, off-leash area to walk and exercise your pooch. There is a law ordinance in the area stating that all dogs must be leashed unless at one of the four off-leash areas.
With so few off-leash areas for dogs, this makes Chalco Hills one of the more valuable places to bring your pup for socialization and total off leash fun. The Chalco Hills Recreation Area has 1,186 acres of winding trails, picturesque views of nature, fishing, boating, and various other activities you and your family can do while in the area.
The off-leash area does contain a trail; however, during wetter weather, it can get muddy. Park does offer plenty of shade trees, some benches, and picnic tables for resting. All in all, this is a well-rounded off-leash dog park with trails and room to play.
While visiting the Chalco Off-Leash Area, please clean up after yourself and your pet. Be sure to bring doggie waste bags just in case there is none on hand. The off-leash area is a medium-sized dog park with plenty of space to explore. If you choose to venture onto some of the park trails, be sure to keep your dog on-leash when outside the off-leash area.
Your dog should be familiar with voice commands, and the park is mostly fenced in. However, there are a couple of areas where your dog could get out, so be sure to be watchful and maintain control. Dogs in training still might not be so suitable for this park.
The Chalco Hills Recreation Area and the off-leash area is the perfect place to picnic and enjoy a fun outdoor adventure with your four-legged friend. The park is opened year round so you will never miss out on a whole afternoon of fun with your favorite pet.
