With an eye to the needs of small, senior, and shy dogs, an enclosure has been designed and reserved specifically for them. The Urbana Park District volunteer team operates under the mandate of providing a safe space where dogs can engage in off-leash activity and appropriate socialization. Part of this core concept is the implementation of proper safety precautions which includes requiring all owners to carry a leash with them at all times.Â
The Champaign Dog Park is a private dog playground, and a membership is required to access the grounds. The yearly membership fee is also valid for use at the Urbana District Dog Park. To obtain a membership, owners may make use of Urbana Park District's online services or visit the Leonhard Recreational Center or the Springer Cultural Center.Â
Daily passes can be purchased at the rate of $5 per day. A signed waiver is required for both daily passes and yearly permits. For those seeking a yearly membership, the cost is $38 for residents and $57 for those residing elsewhere. Additional dogs can be added to a yearly membership at the cost of $6 per dog. At the time of registration, proof of up to date rabies and distemper vaccinations must be provided.Â
It is also mandatory for all dogs to be registered with the city in which they reside. Evidence of a city dog license and park membership must be prominently displayed on each dog's collar at all times. If not, you will have to leave the premises coupled with permanent forfeiture of park privileges. The dog runs at Champaign Dog Park are equipped with bench-style seating for the comfort of all owners.Â
Additionally, poop bags are available on the grounds, and owners are required to use them to clean up after their pets. Unfortunately, there is currently no water access at Champaign Dog Park nor are there bathrooms housed on the grounds. It is forbidden to bring food or cigarettes onto the premises. For a day of fun at a great Illinois park, plan a trip to Champaign Dog Park!Â
