Chenango Valley State Park is situated on 1,137 acres of dense forests and grasslands in southern central New York. Camping tends to be the most popular past time in this park, with over 180 campsites available for rental throughout the warmer months. In addition to these more traditional sites, there are 25 cabins available for rental year round.Â
Built in the early 1900s, these cabins have been recently updated. Four of these cabins can handle six to eight guests, so if you're trying to plan a major vacation try to book quickly. Dogs are allowed inside of the cabins provided, but park officials note that any damages left behind will incur additional costs.
There are approximately four miles of hiking trails available for you and your dog. These trails aren't incredibly challenging, so feel free to hop on and enjoy a short half mile burst. Dog stations are regularly planted along these unpaved trails, so make sure to clean up after your companion.
For summer visitors, there's a decent sized swimming beach that is supervised during park hours. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, coolers, and a lot of sunscreen. Unfortunately, canines are not allowed in any of the public swimming areas within Chenango Valley State Park.
Fishing is another popular activity in Chenango Valley State Park, and there are two designated fishing areas on Chenango Lake. These areas both require fishing licenses, as well as your own equipment. As long as your dog stays on a leash, they're welcome to come along. Rivier fishing is less enforced, due to visitors not needing a licenses. Again, dogs are allowed on the river provided they stay on their leash.
While park officials don't take an official stance, public opinion seems to reflect a less than positive attitude towards canine visitors at this location. Because of this, dog-owning patrons are encouraged to be extra respectful when visiting Chenango Valley State Park.
