Located at 28 Leland Street, East Northport, New York, this local dog park was designed for all dog owners living in the Huntington area. It spans about two-thirds of an acre and it provides locals with plenty of amenities and lots of room for the dogs to run around.
This fenced dog park is free to enter and opens from 7:30 am until dusk on a daily basis (note: as of this year, the park is closed indefinitely to all visitors). The property is available for use to Huntington Township residents only. They can apply for free dog park permits at the nearby Huntington Dog Shelter, which is located right past the dog park and into the second building.
The 24,000 square feet park has no separate areas for small dogs, but it does provide access to plenty of fresh running water, situated at the far end of the property. There are several waste bag stations as well as a shade/rain pavilion with benches. Visitors are given plenty of parking space and are required to have a current NY driver’s license in order to get their permit.
All dogs need to be licensed and up to date on their rabies shot. Owners can have access to the park through the two double-gated entries in the run and register for a dog permit at the Huntington Dog Shelter office. While the ground cover is mostly grass and dirt, dogs can have plenty of fun running around and playing in the Shelter run, which is situated not very far away from the canopy.
It’s essential that owners are reminded about the importance of picking up after their dog, which is why the East Northport Dog Park provides all visitors with waste bags to use while on the location. An ideal place for residents and their beloved pets alike, East Northport Dog Park is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon or enjoy a relaxing walk at sunset.
