DiMattina Dog Park is a part of the New York City Parks Department, just like all New York City off-leash dog parks. This is a fenced area, providing two official off-leash dog runs, south of the children's playground. The runs are designated areas where furry companions are allowed to run at large and exercise during park hours.
DiMattina is a great place to bring your licensed pup to, as generally all visitors are known for having a friendly, laid-back personality. Nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind that all dogs need to follow the same rules and respond very well to their owner’s voice commands.
The property also has a small dog run where owners can bring their pets. Except for the park and dog runs, all animals need to be on a leash, no longer than six feet at all times. Owners need to keep their dogs away from the playground, the fountains, from the sports courts and bathing areas.
The entrance to the park is on Hick's Street and visitors can take advantage of benches for seating, a large amount of shade provided by the trees in an area, two locations for hoses with working water, and enjoyable landscaping. The property is lighted at night, however, visitors need to be in full control of their pets, especially when they are off-leash.
They also have to pick up after their pets and dispose of the waste in containers provided throughout the park. As required by New York State law, all dogs have to be vaccinated against rabies, while the owners need to carry proof of their dog’s current license and rabies vaccination while visiting this public park.
DiMattina Dog Park offers plenty of options for owners and pets alike, and it is also a great place to socialize your dog on the fenced-in run area.
