Discovery Dog Park (Delmas Avenue) is a small, off-leash dog park in San Jose, California. Since it is situated on a one-way street so make sure to arrive from the north side. Though it might not seem like much at first glance, the park is a conveniently hidden gem appreciated by many dog owners who live in the area.Â
Even though it does not have a small dog area, it is relatively quiet on most days and despite its size, it rarely gets crowded. Most importantly, it offers a free, safe location for the four-legged residents of downtown to run around freely, release any pent-up energy, and make canine friends.
The free-standing park is completely fenced and has a double-gated entry system, thus reducing the chance of a hound slipping out. The bark and mulch covered area prevent dogs from getting too dirty as they run along this long and narrow park, most likely chasing trains that sometimes pass by right over the tall fence.Â
Drinking fountains for both owners and their canine companions make sure neither get thirsty after hours of playtime and games of fetch. Unlike many dog parks, Discovery Dog Park has lots of trees within the fenced area that create a feeling of coziness and provide plenty of much-appreciated shade.
Picnic tables and benches make this park comfortable for the owners too. Sit back and enjoy as your pooch plays with another dog or two and explores the grand redwoods that make up most of the park. To keep it clean, make sure to clean up after your dog and if needed, take advantage of the waste bags provided.
Even though the park is small and situated by rail tracks and a highway, it is surprisingly clean, cozy, and quiet. Dog owners who live in the area will surely enjoy its simplicity and convenient downtown location, but if you live far away you might not be able to appreciate the beauty of this modest park.
