Watson Dog Park is a large public dog park in the city of San Jose, California. It's an open-air, off-leash area adjacent to the main Watson Public Park. Vehicle parking is available free of charge in the nearby parking lot or along the side of the street. The dog park is not lit at night.
The Watson Dog Park is a grass-covered field bordered by shoulder-high chain link fencing which is backed by trees and bushes. There's a sizeable small dog park which is completely separate from the main off-leash area. Both zones of the dog park are surfaced with a combination of clumpy, rough grass and dirt.Â
A concrete path runs around the individual perimeters of both areas which means dog owners can walk around comfortably without getting their shoes soiled. There is ample seating provided by park benches inside and outside of the off-leash areas, plus shaded and un-shaded picnic tables. Water fountains have been installed for the dogs.
All dogs must be maintained on a leash until inside the appropriate fenced and gated areas and only two dogs are allowed per each owner. Visitors should also note that no children are permitted inside the dog park unless accompanied by an adult or guardian.Â
For a dog to be allowed into the park, they must be displaying proof of the correct licensing and have all their vaccinations current. The Watson Dog Park is clean, poop bags are available on site, but owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
The Watson Dog park is a great space for dogs to run around in and the occasional switching on of the sprinklers in warm weather, not only waters the grass, but adds an extra fun dimension to canine play time in the form of an impromptu shower. So be prepared and take a towel.
