Palmetto, Florida is on the Gulf side of the state. There are beautiful beaches, nice restaurants, and fun bars, but the tourist vibe is a little more low-key than in other sections of the state like Orlando or Key West. Still, that didn't stop the county from providing a very fun park for every member of the family, including dogs.Â
When a dog park has a cute name, you know it's going to be a great park. And it doesn't get much cuter than Dog Leg Canine Park in Palmetto, Florida. The park is part of Buffalo Creek Park and is named for the shape of the piece of land where the park was placed. So, other than the adorable name, what is it that makes Dog Leg such a good park?Â
Well, it's got a nice, generous size. It has a section for small dogs that is almost an acre in size, which is enormous when you're under 30 pounds. The main section has an agility course, including two different sized hoops to jump through, various hurdles, permanent weave poles, and a pipe to crawl through. It actually looks like something you would find on a kid's playground.Â
For the small dog section, there are several toys for the little dogs to play with. Both sections of Dog Leg are covered in grass, which makes for a beautiful look. There are trees in the main park that provide shade, but in addition, the county has provided tent shelter for people.Â
They have also provided plenty of poop bags on both sides of the park, as well as fountains for people and puppies, and lots of benches on both sides of the park. The Dog Leg Canine Park is open from sunrise to sunset except for Thursdays, when the dog park is closed from 7 AM until 10 AM for maintenance and the last Friday of the month when the park opens at 2 PM.
