If you’d like to go for a hike with your pup through a beautiful forest-filled park, Donaldson Run Park is perfect for you! This 30-acre park is home to a furrific trail that’s perfect for treks with your furry best friend. Dogs are welcome to join you in this park on-leash.
The entrance to Donaldson Run Park is located on 30th Street, and street parking is available here. The park’s main trail, the 1.8-mile Donaldson Run Trail, begins at this entrance. The first part of the trail features a rugged staircase that takes you down to the beautiful Donaldson Run Stream. As you go along the trail, you’ll cross this stream a few times. Since the stream has elevated levels of bacteria, it’s not a good idea to let your pup drink from the stream or play in it.
The entire trail is surrounded by thick native trees, providing plenty of shade while you’re hiking. You may also get to see some of the native wildlife that lives in the park, including woodpeckers, white-tailed deer, and plenty of squirrels for pups to chase. There’s no drinking water available in Donaldson Run Park, so it’s a good idea to bring some with you for your pup.
If you’d like to extend your hike, the Donaldson Run Trail and White Trail connects with the trails in neighboring Potomac Overlook Park. Here, you’ll get great views of the Potomac River. The park also has a picnic area where you can relax and have a snack with your pup after your hike.
Donaldson Run Park is a scenic wooded park that you and your pup are both sure to love! Be sure to bring doggy bags with you so you can clean up after your dog during your hike, and have a pawsitively amazing time trekking here.
