Ewing Dog Park

The Ewing Dog Park is a members-only dog park, but for you, it might be free. The City of Des Moines will give you a free permit in exchange for a few hours of your time volunteering on behalf of the dog park. Otherwise, permits here do have an annual cost.

The Ewing Dog Park in Des Moines, Iowa is massive in comparison to its peers. This dog park has a total of 9.5 acres. One full acre for small breeds, toy dogs, and puppies and 8.5 acres for canines of all sizes. 

These large sections are fenced and covered in grass. There is so much space almost none of it gets worn down due to heavy use. The grass here is very well maintained, it stays green and in good shape through the spring and summer months, well into the fall. 

A few large trees are located at the park and provide a good amount of shade through most hours of the day, when the sun is highest in the sky there is a pavilion you can sit under to get ample shade. Restrooms are available here and open during daylight hours. 

Water is available inside the entrance to the fenced area so you and your canine can stay hydrated. The Ewing Dog Park has wide open spaces. You can throw a frisbee or tennis ball quite far here allowing them to run for it. You can wear out the most energetic canine here. 

Your canine can't escape, but they have all the space in the world to run and play. Poop bags are available at the entrance to the fenced section of the park, and garbage cans are scattered throughout. It doesn't get much better than this.
