For any dog suffering from the boredom blues in Fairfield, there's a pupperdise waiting just for them. The O.B. Nelson Park is known for its pupular ball fields, skate park and family friendly outdoor spaces. But for pups, the resident dog park is where its at!
The Fairfield Iowa Dog Park is located in the south of the park, near the intersection of West Fillmore and Hwy 1 South, and is the pawfect spot to get out your dog's wiggles. The dog run is fully fenced-in to provide your dog with a safe environment to play and run. Once you are inside the gate, you can take off the leash and let your dog romp and socialize. With a small dog area to the side, most of the park is a large enclosure covered in mowed grass for dogs of all sizes. At the gate, there's a covered pavilion offering some shade, and benches for you to relax on. There are also some benches placed throughout the enclosure.
Since its unclear of the dog run offers water or clean-up bags, it may be best to bring your own. Always pick up whatever your pup lays down and help keep the park clean for all visitors. Vaccinations, including rabies, need to be up-to-date before you come, and there should be current license tags on your dog’s collar.Â
While dogs can run free in the enclosure, you should have a leash in hand, and your dog should be leashed anywhere outside of it, including when exploring the rest of O.B. Nelson Park. If your dog gets their fill of the dog run, take a leashed stroll through the larger park. With picnic tables and shelters, there's plenty of places to take a rest or have a quiet outdoor meal. A playground is on site if you have little two-leggeds in your pack, and restrooms are available for all the humans.
