The First Creek Dog Park is an off-leash dog park in Commerce City, Colorado. It is quite a ways out of town, but there is a large piece of open ground nearby where vehicles can be parked. There are no admission fees or memberships required to use this off-leash facility.Â
This picturesque dog park is a spacious field which has been designated for use as an off-leash area for exercising dogs. It has two enclosures. One is for mini mutts and the other for their larger brethren. Both parts are fenced with split timber and chain mesh.Â
The fencing in the large dog area is quite low, and some dogs would find it an easy obstacle to jump over. The compounds are surrounded by open countryside, and a pup on the loose would have a long way to run so keeping a vigilant eye open to prevent escapees is a must for pet owners.Â
Keeping them busy and training them to use the agility equipment is a good distraction. The off-leash areas of this Commerce City dog park are surfaced with dirt, bark shavings, and the odd patch of grass. Paved walkways have been installed from the security gate, around the park, and incorporate the zones where the water fountains have been installed.Â
Benches have been placed periodically around the perimeter for owners to sit on. There are waste stations in easily accessible positions too, which help with the swift and efficient removal of pup poop. There's a lot of pet parent follow up required in this off-leash area as there's room for pups to really run off into the distance.
Having mastered a few voice controls means a pup is less likely to dally at the far end of the dog park when they should be closer to their owner. In inclement weather, go prepared. Take an umbrella and a showerproof coat. It's a long walk from the middle of the dog park to the shelters.
