Forest Park Barking Lot, also known as the Overlook Dog Park, is a public dog park located at the Forest Park in Kew Gardens, New York. In addition to the dog run, the spacious park features playgrounds and a golf course. The quarter of an acre Forest Park Barking Lot was opened in June 2015 and has become a popular location for dog owners in the community for its convenient location, friendly patrons, and offered amenities.Â
This dog park consists of two areas for dogs to run around in without a leash. There are a small dog run and a large dog area. Both are situated on an incline that enables dogs to get more exercises as they play with their canine friends. Most patrons are regulars making it a great location for socialization and canine play dates.Â
Though there is plenty of grass surrounding the off-leash area, the park's terrain is mostly made up of dirt. Make sure to pack a towel for your dog's paws and be careful after rainfall as the surface gets slippery. The dog park is securely fenced and has a double-gated entry system that minimizes the risk of any dogs slipping out as others enter the park.Â
There is a small agility course on top of the hill that dogs are welcome to train on. The Forest Park Barking Lot is very well shaded thanks to the mature trees and greenery growing around it. There are several benches owners can relax on as they supervise their dogs socialize and explore.Â
There are water bowls and water fountains for canine hydration, however, since they are not always turned on it is best to bring your own water. Dog waste bags are complementary and supplied by volunteers so make sure to bring your own or donate to help keep this park clean and poop-free.Â
