Forest Park is a small suburban development just a few miles due west of Chicago. The community has set aside several plots of land for park and recreational use, including areas for dogs to play and meet other dogs. Likewise, owners from the area are encouraged to get together and spend some quality time with their dogs and with each other.Â
Forest Park itself is an enclosed play area filled with woodchips and soft mulch. It is located right off the freeway and is known for its cleanliness and popularity with local community members. Shade is hard to come by on warm days, but space is open and offers plenty of facilities for dog owners to take advantage of.Â
The park includes dog toys, water fountains for dogs, and plenty of poop bags along with retired fire hydrants and plenty of open space. Several benches offer owners a place to relax, although there are no restrooms available at the park. Overall, while community members admit that it isn’t the most spectacular park to look at, it serves as the central meeting place for many of the area’s positive, seasoned dog owners.Â
The Forest Park Dog Park is managed by the Village of Forest Park, and all visitors must register their dogs before entering. Applications can be found online, and there is a fee of $10 for residents. Non-residents can still register their dogs, but the fee is $50. The registration ensures that all dogs that come to the park are up-to-date on shots and healthy.Â
Although the park is rarely policed, residents and visitors who choose not to register their dogs acknowledge that there's always a chance of being ticketed. The park itself is off-leash, but patrons must bring their dogs into the park on a leash and keep the leash handy at all times. If you are looking for a tight-knit dog community and want your dog to meet and play with other healthy, happy dogs, then Forest Park Dog Park is the place for you!
