The Fort Yargo Park is one of the many gorgeous Georgia State Parks and is nestled about an hour from downtown Atlanta. This dog-friendly, beautiful escape is worth the drive and is an excellent getaway. It is quiet, peaceful, and has enchanting views of nature. You and your pooch can explore over 20 miles of trails together, as long as your pooch is on-leash.
On your adventures, you might pass the 260-acre lake where you can take in the breathtaking scenery and feel serene as you stand there with your dog at your side. If you were so inclined to go to Fort Yargo Park for more than a day-trip, you and your pooch could rent a cottage; you'll just pay an extra fee of $45 for your four-legged friend. The Fort Yargo Park has three cottages for rent, and the cost is $165/night and has two bedrooms.
The cottages are not smooshed together, but when you travel with your dog with you, be mindful of your neighbors and discourage barking. The Fort Yargo Park is ADA accessible and has plenty to do aside from hiking. The park offers geocaching, bike rentals, picnics, canoe and kayaking rentals, as well as various styles of camping, from yurts to cabins.
Other amenities include horseshoe rings, disc golf, playground, and nature center. Regardless of where your adventurous side leads you, make sure that you follow the rules and keep your dog on-leash. Also, be sure to pack some doggie-poop bags so you can pick up after your furry friend. Bring some water on your hike for both you and Fido.
If you think you will visit the Fort Yargo Park or other Georgia State Parks frequently, you can purchase a Friends of Georgia State Parks membership for approximately $55 (basic membership), which will allow you access to Georgia State Parks for free for one year.
